Welcome
This is my personal web site. I'm a proud member of SKCC. All official SKCC information can be found on the Straight Key Century Club homepage
March 30 , 2007
I've finished my first week of work on the new job and I'm lovin' it! Just before joining this company I received an email from an SKCC member saying sometimes one door closes so another can open. How true that is... at least in this case. I've never felt so comfortable in my first week on the job.
As I've mentioned, I had to relocate back to Northern Virginia for this new job. I'm in a situation where I haven't been able to get on the air. Hopefully, that will change in the next few weeks.
SKCC Life Goes On ...
I've been pretty quiet on the SKCC list lately. I'm still keeping up with the conversations but I'll be lurking for a while longer. I have been able to keep up with the news so here's a quick summary:
- Frank AA2XB earned SKCC's Worked All States award. He is only the fifth SKCC member to earn the award which has been available since the very beginning of the club. Outstanding job Frank!
- We have a few new Centurions to added in the past week:
- Centurion #77 is Web W6VFA
- Centurion #76 is Bill W4RMM
- Centurion #75 is Ted K8AQM
Some of the old-timers are finding out they are not so old compared with other members of the Quarter Century Wireless Association QCWA. The QCWA seems a perfect fit for a group of people that celebrate Amateur Radio traditions every day. It is hard to describe what QCWA is or what it stands for as I can't find any details on their web site. But, they seem very active both on the air and with local meetings. If you received your first license 25 or more years ago, check them out.
Dan KA3CTQ says there are a bunch of orphan QSL cards in the SKCC QSL Buro. Lists were posted to the Yahoo list and the Forum. If you are on the list, send your SASEs to Dan to receive your cards. Keep an SASE on file with Dan to avoid delays in the future.
Mark KJ7BS is preparing the next issue of the SKCC Centurion newsletter. He is soliciting input for ideas and articles. The SKCC Centurion has been great reading so far and it will only get better as more members contribute.
David N1EA announced that the Maritime Radio Day is scheduled for 14 - 15 April 2007. From the Radio Maritime Day website:
To remember our past at sea and to support the future of W/T inside New Generations the 14th and the 15th April 2007 Merchant Navy Radio Officers and Radio Operators of Maritime Radio Coasts Stations will be active on HF bands to meet Amateurs Radio for a special event: "RADIO MARITIME DAY".
Dave W1DV has returned from his trip to the Republic of South Africa. He says he'll be very active until his next trip to Central African Republic a few months from now. Dave is a Centurion so those chasing the Tribune cert have a new number to chase. Welcome home Dave!
Lots of other news, but that's all the time I have for now. Keep pounding brass and see you on the air soon (but not soon enough).
73,
Kevin, K4VD

Straight Key Sprint
Apologies to the winners of the March Sprint. I have not made up the certificates yet but will try to find some time this weekend.
Congratulations to Tom K4ZGB , Ed KG4W and Justin N5BO for taking the top three spots in the March 2007 Straight Key Sprint. Obviously, Tom's performance shows that last month wasn't beginner's luck.
John W0JFR ran the SKCC Club Call K9SKC. He pulled a score of 677, an outstanding showing. Tom K4ZGB will be running K9SKC for the next sprint.
Participation in the Straight Key Sprint remains strong. There is a category for non-members which has not had any participation in a while. Spread the word, the Straight Key Sprint is open to all hams using a straight key, bug, etc.
The next Straight Key Sprint is scheduled for 11 April 2007 from 0000Z to 0200Z (8 PM ET Tuesday evening).
See you all there!
Happenings at ARS K4VD
It has been a very long time since I've been excited about going to work but after my first week at the new job, I was (almost) disappointed the weekend came along.
I'll be spending the weekend in Shawsville, VA doing a little more packing and moving. This will go on each weekend through the end of April. It will be nice when all the moving is done.
April 4th is my 46th birthday. It has been a good year.
